Chessman Magazine Archives
Chessman was an interim magazine initially published in 1977 by the GCA. South Carolina and Florida joined the magazine beginning in early 1978. The first five issues were edited by Billy Noyes, Ken Seagle, and J. Earle Morrison successively.
The July 1978 issue was a bold experiment by editor and publisher Jerry Grable. It featured a new slick, state of the art look with glossy pages and full page advertisements. Unfortunately the money and effort involved precluded a long run in this style.
The old look returned in September 1978 with Georgia, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina contributing in this new multi-state magazine. The first issue was edited by Mike Decker, and the remaining seven issues were ably edited by J. Earle Morrison.
Chessman was published between September 1977 and April 1980, and was published six times per year.
