Georgia Scholastic Girls Championship

This event will honor scholastic players in Georgia in two sections: CHAMPIONSHIP (grades K-12), and UNDER 1200. Any girl may elect to play in the CHAMPIONSHIP section. The winner of the CHAMPIONSHIP section will represent Georgia at the 2025 Ruth Haring Tournament of Champions.

ELIGIBILITY

  • All participants must be residents of the State of Georgia for 30 days prior to the date of the qualifying tournament.

  • The players must be completing at least 50% of their educational instruction in a state approved K-12 curriculum for a minimum of 30 consecutive school days prior to the qualifying event.

  • Player may not be listed as a full-time college or university student prior to game daySc

  • Scholastic girl chess players are formally invited to this event; however, this event is open to all Georgia girls that meet the above eligibility requirements.

FORMAT:

1-day USCF-rated event, 4-SS, Time-Control: G/60; d/5


ROUNDS: 

10:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:30 pm, 6:00 pm.


BYES

One “½ Point Bye” is available in Rounds 1 thru 3. A “Zero Point Bye” is available in Round 4. All Byes must be requested in advance of 1st round before pairings posted. No changes afterwards.

Please note: USCF membership required for all players. Sets and boards supplied. Please bring clocks.  


AWARDS

Stipend of $500 to the winner to attend the 2025 National Girls Tournament of ChampionsTrophies to top three in each section.


USCF memberships (required) and must be purchased in advance if necessary.


REGISTRATION

Entry Fee is $50. You must register online by April 17th at MIDNIGHT. No on-site  registration. $100 on Friday, April 18th. Cancellations made by 8:00 am on tournament day will receive a full refund.


TIE-BREAK SYSTEM

If two or more players have a perfect score, the tie will be broken by a Blitz playoff.  In the event of a tie involving players with less than perfect scores, the following tie-break system will be used in the order listed to determine who receives first place and therefore who will be Georgia’s nominee to the 2024 Ruth Haring Tournament of Champions.

1. Head to Head(Black draw odds)                          

2. In the event of a tie, the stipend will be awarded as follows: players will play two G/10 d5. After those games, if a tie persists, players will play one "Armageddon" game with White getting 6 minutes to Black's 4 minutes, both sides receiving 5-second delay, and Black having draw-odds.


Players should be at tournament site by 9:30am on Saturday.
