LIST OF REGISTERED PLAYERS


This invitational competition will determine the top scholastic players in Georgia for High School (9-12), Junior High (6-8), and Elementary (K-5), Elementary (K-3) and (Primary) (K-1). The HS, Junior High, and K-5 Elementary champions will represent the State at the Denker, Barber, and Rockefeller Tournaments of Champions held concurrently July 28-31, 2025, Middleton, Wisconsin, during the US Open, receiving a $500 stipend after full attendance of the tournament. Starting in 2026 and beyond, the K-3 and K-1 champions will represent the state at the Morphy and Ashley Tournaments of Champions.


Eligibility: Georgia students will qualify based on the minimum rating requirements from the US Chess April 2025 Ratings List:

  • 1700 or higher for 9-12th (High School)

  • 1400 or higher for 6-8 (Middle School)

  • 1000 or higher for K-5 (Elementary)

  • 1000 or higher for K-3 (Elementary)

  • Provisional Rating or higher for K-1 (Elementary)

Players on this list are invited to register for the event.  Please ensure you have a valid USCF ID before you register.

Please contact the Tournament Coordinator, at gssc@georgiachess.org if you believe that you qualify and you are not on the invited list. If you are not on the list or ineligible, we will automatically cancel your registration. 


Registration: You may register online if you are on the list of invitees.  You must register no later than Friday, April 18, 2PM. NO ONSITE REGISTRATIONS ACCEPTED. Cancellations made before Round 1 pairings are up may receive a full refund. 


Format: EF=$50 until April 17, 2025, $100 on April 18th, 2025. US Chess Memberships required, 1-day event, 4-SS, G/60;d5, USCF rated. Rounds: 10:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:30 pm, 6:00 pm. Players should be at the tournament site by 9:30am on Sunday.


Tie-break Systems: In the event of a tie the following tie-break systems will be used in the order listed to determine the first-place finish in the Championship.

1. Head to Head (Black draw odds)

2. In the event of a tie, the stipend will be awarded as follows: players will play two G/10 d5. After those games, if a tie persists, players will play one "Armageddon" game with White getting 6 minutes to Black's 4 minutes, both sides receiving 5-second delay, and Black having draw-odds.


BYES: One bye is allowed.  ½ point bye is available in Rounds 1-3. Zero point bye available in Round 4. Bye must be requested in advance of 1st round before pairings posted (by 9:30am). No changes.


Awards: State nominees to the Denker, the Barber, and the Rockefeller will receive a $500 stipend after full attendance of these tournaments. Trophies will be available for the first three places in each section. 


Free Parking: Ample free parking is available adjacent to the tournament site.
