South Georgia Winter Chess Classic

Five rounds, Swiss System, a USCF rated event.
Cost: $30 per participant.
Three Competitive Sections:
- 1. Open (1500+): Open to USCF players rated 1500 and above.
- 2. Reserve (900 - 1499): Open to USCF players rated between 900 and 1499.
- 3. Booster (<900): Open to USCF players rated under 900. NOTE: All players joining US Chess Federation at this event will enter as a 400 rated player (standard procedure) and will be required to compete in this section.

- All participants must be registered members of US Chess Federation. Membership can be applied for on-site, but please arrive 30-45 minutes earlier to allow time for application processing. Membership cost for USCF depends on age ($20-40). This cost is separate from the registration cost of this tournament.
- Competitive sections may be run as separate tournaments (participants only play members within their section) or combined into one large tournament (all participants may play against each other). The decision regarding format depends on multiple factors and rests solely with the tournament director. If a single large tournament format is chosen then placement in each section will be determined by final ranking order among all participants.
Prizes: 100% of entry fee proceeds go to the winners. Prizes are based on 40 registrations.
Open: 1st place $264, 2nd $168, 3rd $84.
Reserve: 1st place $204, 2nd $132, 3rd $60.
Booster: 1st place $156, 2nd $84, 3rd $48.
Time Control: G/30 (30 minutes per side), increment 0, USCF dual rated (regular and quick)

Schedule: Saturday January 27, 2024. On-site registration ends at 9:45 am. All players, including pre-registrants, check in by 9:45 am. Round start times: R1 = 10:00 am; R2 = 11:15 am; Lunch Break 12:15-1:00 pm; R3 = 1:00 pm; R4 = 2:15 pm; R5 = 3:30 pm. Byes: ½ point byes available. Must request before 9:45 am. 0-point byes available any time for any round.
Equipment: Players are encouraged, but not required to bring their own chess clocks. Phone app chess clocks will only be used as a last resort.

(For Google Maps use: 18-107 Faculty Dr, Tifton, GA 31793) Use the parking lot between the Carlton Center (library) and Donaldson Dining Hall. Parking is free on weekends. Donaldson Dinning Hall is open for lunch during the lunch break (and other times) for $10.
