Where: Gwinnett School of Math, Science, and Technology (GSMST); 970 McElvaney Lane, Lawrenceville, GA 30044


When: March 14, 2020.


Eligibility: Teams who have qualified from one of the metro Atlanta Team Regionals, or teams from outside the metro Atlanta area who have been invited. Each team may bring up to seven players (six in K-1). It is not necessary to rank these players, just to list them.Top five scores for each team will count (top four in K-1). Teams must have at least three players to be eligible for a trophy. US Chess membership required. It is not necessary for a player to have played in a Regional to be able to play in this tournament. 


Sections: K-1, K-3, K-5, 6-8.


Format: 5-SS; Five rounds (four rounds in K-1) US Chess rated, individually paired Swiss System tournament.


Time Control:  G/25, d5; 25 minutes per player, with a five second per move delay. 30 minutes per player if your clock cannot be set for delay. Delay is preferred.


Schedule: Rounds for K-3, K-5 and 6-8: 9:30am – 11:00am – 12:30pm – 2:00pm – 3:30pm. Rounds for K-1: 10:00am - 11:30am - 1:00pm - ASAP. Awards ASAP after last round. First round pairings posted before 9:00am. No changes after 8:30am. Final registration list will be posted on our website and at the tournament. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that all information is correct, or to have it fixed before 8:30am.


Byes: Half point byes available any round. Limit two. Must commit before 8:30am on Saturday, March 14. No changes.


Registration: Registration is by team only. No individual registration.


Entry Fee: $175 per team if received by Thursday March 12, 6pm; $225 per team if received by Friday March 13, 6pm. No registrations accepted after Friday March 13, 6pm.


Prizes: Participation ribbons to all players. Trophies to all teams with plus scores (8.5 points or more in K-1; 13.0 points or more in K-3, K-5, 6-8).


Equipment: Sets and boards supplied. Please bring a clock if you have one; none supplied.


Notation: Notation is required for players in K-5 and 6-8 grade sections. Notation is recommended, but not required for players in K-1 and K-3 sections. Scoresheets and pens will be furnished. Players may use scorepads or scorebooks. Electronic scorekeeping devices are not allowed, even if US Chess approved.


Electronics: Players may not have a cell phone, smart watch, or other such electronic device on their person during a game. These must be turned off and stored in a bag under the table during play. Penalty for violating this rule is at TD’s discretion, and may include forfeit of the game in progress.


Photos: We may take photos of your child for possible publication on our website. Please email us if you do not wish us to photograph your child.


Exceptions: Anyone wishing an exception to any of the tournament rules should contact the Chief TD by email before the tournament.
