2020 Georgia Scholastic Invitational Championship


Player on the invitational list of if your live rating meets the minimum requirements (1600 for HS; 1400 for K-8; 1150 for K-5) after the USCF December published rating, please register for the event.

Dates: January 11, 2020 - January 12, 2020

Location: Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Atlanta, 2500 Old Alabama Rd., Suite 11, Roswell, GA 30076

3 Sections: High School (9th-12th grade), Middle School (6th-8th grade), Elementary (K-5th grade)

2-day event, 5-round Swiss, G/90 d/5, USCF rated.

Sat rounds: 10AM-2PM-6PM
Sun rounds: 10AM-2PM

Half-point byes available for any round, must be requested before the start of round 2!

Registration: Pre-register online at: https://atlchessclub.com/event-registration-list/. Registration 8:30am-9:30am day of event, or call (678) 628-5615 day before event to register by phone.

Entry Fee: $40 if paid online, by phone or mailed check, or in person by midnight day before event. $50 “late” entry if paid day of the event.

Awards:

Winner of the High School section will be Georgia 2020 HS State Champion and receive stipend of $500 to attend DENKER K-12 Tournament of State Champions.

Winner of the Middle School section will be Georgia 2020 Middle School State Champion and receive stipend of $500 to attend BARBER K-8 Tournament of State Champions.

Winner of the Elementary section will be Georgia 2020 Elementary State Champion and receive stipend of $500 to attend ROCKEFELLER K-5 Tournament of State Champions.

All participants will receive a plaque (except, possibly, late entrants).

Requirements:
You must be on the invitation list. You must have a current USCF membership. If your rating meets the minimum requirements (1600 for HS; 1400 for K-8; 1150 for K-5) after the USCF December published rating, you may email gssc@georgiachess.org to be invited. You must do this by the registration deadline, and you must reach the minimum rating by the deadline. Only High School students (9th-12th grade) may play in the High School section, and only Middle School students (6th-8th grade) may play in the Middle School section.

Tie-break Systems:
In the event of a tie, the following tie-break systems will be used in the order listed to determine who receives which plaque, and, if necessary, who is Georgia’s nominee to the Denker Tournament of High School Champions and/or to the Barber K-8 Tournament of State Champions and/or the Rockefeller K-5 Tournament of State Champions:

1. Modified Median
2. Solkoff
3. Cumulative
4. Cumulative of Opposition
In case all tiebreaks come out even: Armageddon blitz playoff. White receives six minutes to Black’s four. Black has draw-odds.
