Treasurer Vacancy

FM Kazim Gulamali has resigned due to his busy teaching schedule. We will miss him and invite him to rejoin the leadership when he can serve again. Treasurer is an important Board position for the GCA. We will look to the next Treasurer to understand our financials better and to strengthen the GCA in the years to come. We use Quickbooks Pro for keeping books and the accounts are all configured. We intend to find an assistant treasurer to assist in handling petty cash. Interested persons should send a letter or email to the secretary, Keith Sewell, stating their candidacy at
secretary@georgiachess.org. Declarations should contain a paragraph to a single page of any relevant background or experience. The Board has extended the floor for nominations indefinitely. The Next GCA Board Meeting is Monday 6 February from 7-9pm at the KidChess offices.

GA Class is now history! Tournament was submitted for rating!

We strive to rate tournaments immediately after the event and apologize for technical
issues that delayed our rating submission.

This year's major event will be held the weekend before Thanksgiving at one of our favorite venues, Winship Ballroom at Emory University.

A GCA Membership meeting will be held to consider dues changes and two By-Laws proposals:

Note: The Board has not taken a position on these By-Laws proposals.

2011 Georgia Women's Open is History!

24 girls and women participated in the first Georgia Women's Open! This tournament featured a shootout between Bella Belegradek and WIM Carolina Blanco, with Bella coming out on top! Bella is eligible for free registration to either the Class championship or the GA State Championship!

The U1000 section ended up being a battle for first place between Zoe Justice and her mother, Susan Justice. Zoe prevailed and has free registration to either the Class Championship or the GA State Championship!

The highest achieving scholastic player was Avirneni Saithanusri, who upset Bella Belegradek in the third round! She will be invited to attend the Susan Polgar Invitational Tournament for Girls, representing Georgia.

The response from players and family were favorable. They would like to have another Women's Open next year! The Board will consider this possibility.

Congratulations to the first place finishers of the 2011 Grade Level Championship!

Frank Johnson Resigns as GCA Webmaster

Frank Johnson resigned as GCA Webmaster in the midst of an increasingly busy work schedule. Frank helped emergently bring up registration for the 2011 MLK tournament on short notice and became the Interim Webmaster during the remainder of that scholastic season. We welcome Frank to rejoin the leadership when his workload improves!
